Welcome to the new site!
We are looking forward to bringing you the 31st annual Kepler Challenge event and the new site should make your journey to the start line a smooth one. It has been a long time coming and the Kepler Challenge committee do hope that you enjoy using it over the coming months to find out everything you need to know about our 2018 race.
Two dates you will need to keep in mind
7th of July 2018 – Entries open (link to entry page/procedure)at 6.30am for the Kepler Challenge and Luxmore Grunt.
1st of December 2018 – 31st annual Kepler Challenge and Luxmore Grunt event.
Starting 2018 with a whirl
Mother Nature has given us a very timely reminder that snow can happen at any time this Autumn. With the Great Walks season closing on the 30th of April, The Kepler track saw enough snow, and accompanying weather to close the alpine section of the track for several days at a time over April. Do keep this in mind for your training, particularly if you plan to get out on the track. The Department of Conservation will have the latest track and weather information if you plan some winter training runs on the Kepler – please be careful out there!
Our website has some good training tips (link to training page) from our (fantastic) partners, along with good nutrition advice (link to nutrition stuff from PURE)and everything you need to know about entering, training, getting here and the event itself.
The committee have had their first meeting and plans are underway for race day 2018. With a changing of the guard on some crucial roles for the event, not the least of which is our dedicated commentary team of Noel & Sue Walker, the event should have enough of the same “stuff” that makes us so special along with some new faces to mix it up a bit.
Invitations will go out soon for our Charity Challenge Racers (link to charity challenge page) and for the Te Anau Community to apply for the funds raised. Each year we help 15 runners ease the anxiety of gaining entry with this scheme and the funds raised help the local Te Anau community who support this event so well.
We look forward to keeping in touch over the coming months. Please get in touch ( social-media@keplerchallenge.co.nz ) if you have any suggestions, comments or questions – we would love to hear from you!
